The family purchased one of the best terroirs in Stellenbosch region: the Taaibosch vineyard, a 22 hectares estate located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. The exceptional terroir of the estate provides the ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Here a traditional hands-on approach to wine making is used, which is put in place by our talented cellar master & associate Schalk Willem Joubert who oversees the making of exceptional wines at the Oddo family estates in South Africa.

Since 2018 the Oddo family, together with their winemaking team, have worked tirelessly to bring Provencal style rosé to South Africa in addition to opening a restaurant in the vineyard of Pink Valley, located in close proximity to Stellenbosch on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain.

Acquisition of Le Piton Sancerre in Sancerre, France
The Oddo family had the opportunity to acquire a remarkable 8-hectare estate located on one of the oldest Sancerre plots with an exceptional terroir. The different vineyards are located on the hills surrounding the town of Sancerre with soil essentially composed of flint and limestone.

Acquisition of Serra Ferdinandea in Sicily, Italy
Friendship between the Planeta and the Oddo families has led to the creation of a unique 100-hectare project among which 17 hectares of vines combining the best of Sicilian and French grape varieties: Nero d’Avola, Grillo; Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, in a special place. Le Chant is the third South African property to have captured the imagination of the Oddo family, and in look, feel, setting and terroir, it differs vastly from the other two. While Taaibosch and Pink Valley are perched on the side of the Helderberg Mountain.
The name Le Chant brings a touch of the Oddos’ family French ancestry and identity to their South African ventures. It means ‘The Song’, and the name on the wine label is paired with the iconic French rooster.”
